The 3rd Edmonton chess festival was held between July 29th and August 4th. This year’s event was specially dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Edmonton chess club, one of the oldest clubs in the city… FULL REPORT

ECC August Open

A reminder that the ECC August Open begins tonight at 7:00 PM.

At least two Masters have already pre-registered.  New Edmonton Master Vladimir Pechenkin will be playing in his first club tournament.

Registration from 6:30-6:50 PM, or phone the ECC if you want to play but might be late. Phone 424-0283 and leave a message.

The August Open will be a 4-round Accelerated Swiss, running from August 7 to August 28.  All players welcome, from beginner to Grandmaster.

Location: Edmonton Chess Club, 10840 124 st.

Entry fee: $3 for CFC members. $13 for non-members. CFC and ECC membership is available at the door.

Prizes: Honour and glory, and a free t-shirt to the first person to break Micah Hughey’s 20-game ECC Thursday night winning streak by beating him.

GM Ganguly’s Simul

On Tuesday night,  July 29th, GM Ganguly will give a simul at 7:00 PM. GM Ganguly is the current Champion of India. Entry to the simul is $10 (only $5 for those players participating in the Sectional).

Grandmaster lecture and simul

The Edmonton Chess Festival, which includes the International Master and Sectional tournaments, will get under way on Wednesday, July 30, with a lecture and a simultaneous exhibition given by two of the Grandmasters participating in the Tournament.

The ECC July Open begins Thursday, July 3rd, night at 7:00 PM.

The July Open will be a 5-round Accelerated Swiss, running from July 3 to July 31.

DURING THE FINAL ROUND, WE WILL BE JOINED BY THE GRANDMASTERS FROM THE
EDMONTON INTERNATIONAL
, playing their first round game.
