The Lone Wolf Simultaneous Chess Exhibition

In honor of the recently deceased chess icon Robert Fischer, there will be a random back rank (Fischer Random) simultaneous exhibition at the club in Saturday, April 19, at 1 pm. National Master Nicolas Haynes, one of the strongest players in Edmonton, is giving the exhibition at the club. Nic will give opponents the option of a normal back rank. Net proceeds will go to the prize fund of the 2008 Edmonton International Tournament (2008 August Long Weekend)

Entry Fees are $10 for adult players and $5 for junior players.

In case you win, you get the satisfaction of beating Nic and 2 items from the concession!!

Edmonton International Qualifier

You are invited to the Edmonton international qualifier tournament if your rating is below 2200! The qualifier will take place on April 26-27 at the Edmonton chess club. Registration: April 26, from 9:00 – 9:45 am in the ECC.

Entry fee: $30 for adults and $25 for juniors.

Rounds: 5

Rounds’ time:
Saturday: 10:00 am, 2 pm, and 6 pm.
Sunday: 10:00 am and 2 pm.

Time control: Game in 90 minutes plus 30 seconds/move increment.

Membership: CFC membership is required and is available at the door. Non-CFC members will be charged an additional $10 to enter the event.

Prizes: As this is a fund-raiser to the Edmonton International, most of the funds will be used for that purpose. However, some money still will be given as prizes which should include class prizes as well.

In addition to the money prize, the winner of the qualifier will get the opportunity to play in the Edmonton international event, coming in the end of July, 2008.

A Clockwork Orange Simultaneous Chess Exhibition

Saturday, April 12, at 1 pm in the ECC.
Micah Hughey, one of the strongest players in Edmonton, is giving a simultaneous exhibition at the club. Micah will play all comers at 110 minutes + 30s per move increments:

example with 10 players, Micah has only 1/10 th of the time the opponent has to play the game !!
so, pile on, the more players, the less time for Micah

Mercy rule: maximum of 20 opponents
Net proceeds will go to the prize fund of the 2008 Edmonton International Tournament (2008 August Long Weekend)
Come and support this worthy effort at the club; players of all skill levels are welcome!

Art Skeel Memorial

The ECC Thursday night tournament for April, Art Skeel Memorial, will begin this Thursday, April 3, at the Edmonton Chess Club.

It will be a 4-week tournament, using accelerated Swiss pairings.

Entry fee is $3 for the month, and you must have a current CFC
membership, which can be purchased at the club.

Please register from 6:30 – 6:50 p.m. on Thursday, with the game
starting at 7:00.

Time control : game in 110 min, with 30 sec increment on each move.

If you cannot play on April 3, but would like to play on following
Thursdays, you can certainly do that, with half-point byes given for
any rounds missed prior to round 4.
